A doll looking up at the moon. It recounts to its witch a dream it once had. Before it was a doll, it wanted to be an astronaut. It wanted so badly to go to space. But circumstances surrounding it precluded such a dream from ever coming true.
A doll that doesn't want to eat. But its witch insists that it needs to eat. It's a fruitless back and forth. It doesn't want to eat. It needs to eat.
A doll with its witch. They sit together in a park. Other entities pass them by. Some people, some not. They remain quiet as the two watch them go.
E:"You know... Your story has already been told, little doll." The doll sets its witch's food on the tray in front of her before it tilts its head in curiosity. She tries to stifle a cough. But it comes out, heavy and wet. She lift her handkerchief up to her mouth.
"Good doll." The doll looks up from its work toward its witch. It tilts its head, curious about what prompted the statement. "I just think that you're a good doll!" The doll smiles at its witch's words. "Good Miss!" The witch smiles back.
A doll feeling under the weather. It wants to lay back down - but there are still things that it needs to do! Besides. It's not feeling sick. Just a bit tired. A bit exhausted. It can still carry on. And so it does.
A doll crying in its room late at night. It's been doing its best to sob softly, so as not to wake its witch. Perhaps it succeeded - she doesn't come. Eventually its sobbing subsides enough that it's able to whisper to itself. "I'll be okay. I have to be okay."
A doll nursing a cup of hot chocolate. It's late at night. It's just a bit cold. It shares this time with its witch. On a whim, it sets aside its cup, and asks "Can this one hug you?" Its witch nods, setting aside her own cup. And they embrace. Warm together.
A salvager doll. Its task - break down ships that have been abandoned or rendered otherwise unusable for salvage. It's good at its job. It knows exactly where to cut, what sells for the most, how to extract every type of reactor.
C:"896, signal lost." ... W:"896, still active." C:"896, copy." I can feel the hydraulics straining as I push against the controls. As ever, if the reactor is still intact, it's not a confirmed kill. The display shifts from dirt to the horizon.
