Sorry that wasn't directed at you. It was more a comment on @ryanlcooper.com s original comment about making a lot of money off of it.
Yeah you're basically building a small home. It'll cost between 250-400k depending on what you build. I'm considering it more from a utility perspective than anything else. If you took that money and put it in an index fund you'd make more than you would on rent.
Its a peculiarly Californian way to expand housing. My friends in other states had never heard of ADUs. It can serve a few purposes: Rental for extra income, a place for our son if he goes to school locally, a place for visiting friends. I want also want to put a large basement under it for storage.
We live in the east bay of SF and are considering this.
My wife and I both work from home and we need to have a backup. I couldn't use Starlink as a primary internet connection, but it works fine for when AT&T fiber goes down for 6 hours in the middle of the day.
I have Starlink as a backup WAN. As you can see from the test history below the throughput is highly variable.
When I first moved to California I checked the "Vote by mail" thing when I registered. But I forgot about it. Then when the ballot came in the mail I thought it was a scam at first. Honestly I really love it and feel bad for folks who don't have this option.
It's not the color I would choose but it's also not my house. I don't even know why folks care about something like this. I have a neighbor that has a rusted out car in his front yard. Again not my thing, but it's his place.
Awesome I’ll check this out.
