Please, please keep advocating for proper funding for the core (not boutique) funding programs in SSHRC, NSERC, and CIHR. We can’t let the Feds cheer themselves on this one and consider it over. #budget24 /fin4

the new rates apply across the board. This is an absolutely necessary first step, but will only increase disparity and decrease equity without major additional investment so that all can see the benefit without crippling research programs or forcing NSERC panels to fund far fewer grants. 3/4

signals the end of their ability to have a viable research program. Nearly HALF of all @NSERC Discovery Grant holders can not afford even a single PhD student off their grant at the new rates (data from 2023). A small general funding increase won’t compensate. This isn’t equitable unless 2/4
