My hunch is this is a response to the VP debate. I worried after that about Republicans who lean Harris bc they find Trump simply intolerable now leaning back to voting for the GOP ticket bc of Vance. Putting “one of them” in her cabinet may help keep them on board. Every vote matters

Exactly. 95% of the population couldn't name a single cabinet member, and even us political junkies probably only know one or two. But the people she's trying to appeal to are not partisan Republicans, but inattentive normies who still like the sound of bipartisanship.
The people she's trying to appease are like, Sherrod Brown/Donald Trump voters, and I think she'll probably pick someone who does indeed appeal to them
Dems really are fundamentally different from GOP; republicans only focus on serving their own kind, while democrats always seem fixated on winning over the people who don’t like them. As someone who went to high school & tried to get girls to like me, I can report that this doesn’t work well
