I am not sure if the automatic translation from Portuguese into English is correct, but I don't consider Father Pedro Ponce de Léon a 'great pioneer of sign languages'. He was a pioneer in the education of deaf people, but that is a different thing.

Happy #EuropeanDayOfLanguages! I speak English, a little French, and a smattering of Maltese. But not all European languages are ‘spoken’: I also sign British Sign Language. None of Europe's sign languages are 'official languages' of the EU as yet.
