A favourite Spanish phrase of mine for something that takes ages is “más lento que el caballo del malo”, which harks back to classic Westerns: it means “slower than the bad guy’s horse”.
Here in Spain the 'Fiesta Nacional de España' doesn't easily translate to 'Spanish Language Day'!

In Argentinian slang, a tummy paunch can be called cementerio de ravioles, or “cemetery of raviolis.” A similar phrase I’ve come across is genocida de facturas, or “genocider of pastries”
