The right spent a generation gaming and weaponizing the mainstream media's "both sides must be legitimate" assumption while also building their own alternative media ecosystem, and liberals basically sat back and did nothing but hope the media would eventually just report "the truth."
I used to "finger" people and it wasn't offensive, that's just how you found each other.
