Yeah I was thinking of posting or writing something about this! One possibility I'm concerned about there - which the press hasn't picked up on - would be chemical waste runoff from quartz processing getting caught up in floods & potentially causing further problems for locals.

Definitely write something. Seems like a potential case of a legacy issue being overlooked due to the conspicuous immediate problems.
