X-Men was doing apartheid analogies in the 80s. Star Trek aired the first interracial kiss on us television in the 60s and did episodes on the evil of conversion therapy in the 90s. The Rebels in Star Wars are based on the viet-cong. Some people are just media illiterate bsky.app/profile/adam...
i apologize in advance for being pedantic, but ... "It was not the first interracial kiss on TV, it was not even the first interracial kiss on US TV and it was not even the first interracial kiss between humans on Star Trek." fakehistoryhunter.net/2019/09/11/n...
Have they even watched Star Trek, especially the new batch of shows???
Also talked about „the reunification of Ireland and Northern Ireland in 2024“ which lead to censorship of the episode which originally aired in 1990. bsky.app/profile/kens...
2024 is coming up so it’s time for this Star Trek story: BBC censored a Star Trek TNG episode in 1990 because Data (the Android) talks about the “reunification of Ireland in 2024”. To date, the episode still as has never been shown in full on the island of Ireland. www.irishpost.com/news/star-tr...
STAR TREK: The Next Generation was ahead of its time and rarely shied away from a bold prediction...
> Star Trek aired the first interracial kiss on us television in the 60s Which if recall the story correctly, got Star Trek literally cancelled by Southern network affiliates.
The Rebellion as a whole comes from the Viet Cong? I thought ut was just the Ewoks
George Lucas made three movies specifically about the dangers of creeping fascism and somehow people think his work is politically neutral.
In fairness most of these people also think the radical political revolutionary who was driven to fury at people exploiting their religion for profit also wants them to hate gay people and believe in the prosperity gospel. Media literacy not exactly their forte.
I suspect but can't prove this is why the right is pushing toward caustic culture wars and boycotts of "woke." They have no real good mainstream culture of their own. They have no great iconic genre stuff, like X-Men or Star Trek or Doctor Who. So, they have burn everything else down.
I'm legit shocked that conservatives haven't tried to co-opt Judge Dredd yet.
Star Trek is definitely one of the dumbest ones to complain about. It was all about social justice from day one. It's also hilarious when people complain about Doctor Who. In the 1960s, they filled their stories with female scientists. In the 70s, they addressed big business and pollution.
