People will point to something and say “see voting doesn’t do anything” and it’s literally just the consequences of Republicans winning elections
Trouble is there's often no one to vote for at most levels (uncontested) and steep barriers are in place to keep people from running without the support of a party that doesn't seem to care about most local races. The DSA showed how easy it is to beat the GOP at those levels if you try.
Well, except for Gov Newsom in California arranging to strangle yet another single-payer bill in a state legislative committe. We keep electing a Democratic supermajority and a Democratic governor, and they keep fucking us over. Yes, Republicans would be worse.
So what do you do if the state is gerrymandered out the wazoo?
With the caveat that sometimes progressive candidates are liars. But yeah. Voting clearly works. Why would the GOP work so hard to disenfranchise voters if it wasn't a viable threat?
Totally agree. When your whole government is based on compromise it's hard to get anything done when an entire national party is hellbent on bringing absolute misery to the human race.
huh seems like dems should try winning elections
Often times the republicans won those elections because dems, especially at state/ local levels in red areas, do not run competitive campaigns on popular policies; and because red states are all extremely gerrymandered and POC face extreme voter suppression. don't individualize it.
I keep voting and they keep winning elections tho
VOTING IS YOUR SUPERPOWER PASS IT ON
