As for my own actions, I ✅ rapid test 2 days before & day of travel, & again after (~50% of Covid infections are asymptotic) ✅ use nasal spray & CPC mouthwash (some evidence that they ⬇️ infection) ✅ wear N95 mask indoors ✅ book places with patios, windows that open, etc. Any step reduces risk!
And now that I think of it, it would be useful to hear from former students who don’t want to be contacted or avoid responding, too. There is a variety of reasons someone might not reply — here I’m assuming that they were contacted.
Great thread and discussion about a tricky situation. This issue comes up often enough in science that the community ought to develop some best practices, or suggested weighting of various pros/cons. Input from past EICs might help too.

I would understand both, but B is clearer. Even better IMO is “without going out for competition” or “without considering other bids” — otherwise it could sound like no one else wanted to bid.
