AlphV, the hackers behind the ransomware attack on Change Healthcare that's snarled medical prescriptions nationwide, received a $22 million payment on March 1, visible on Bitcoin's blockchain. Change Healthcare won't tell me if it paid the ransom. www.wired.com/story/alphv-...
The transaction, visible on Bitcoin's blockchain, suggests the victim of one of the worst ransomware attacks in years may have paid a very large ransom.
Both security firm Recorded Future and blockchain analysis firm TRM Labs tell me the Bitcoin address that received the $22 million payment belongs to the AlphV hackers. TRM says it can link the address to payments from two other AlphV victims in January.
I was in the pharmacy this weekend, and one of the staff had to make a charge account for a customer because the system couldn’t contact Medicare, and she said it’s been like that for days. Is this attack related?
They got scammed based on other unconfirmed reports. Bring some popcorn.
More confirmation that our privatized "non-socialized" health care system is saving us all money.
@librarycolleen.bsky.social This is the company that got ransomwared. They may have paid an enormous, if not unprecedented ransom. There's also a chance it won't even work. But, maybe.
