The Auckland skyline can be pretty awesome from the water

When I was a kid we hand reared calves: Daisy, Blue Bell etc. We knew they would eventually be in the freezer. (And once processed we had frozen steak, mince etc. labeled with the date, cut ā€¦ and name )

Also - apparently autocorrect doesnā€™t like Simrad (I had ā€œfixedā€ it in the post but it still changed it ā€¦ šŸ˜‚)

Itā€™s good kit! My unit uses RayMarine but I did some training on another coastguard boat that has Sinead (all the ex Americas Cup Protectors that are now with Coastguard NZ have Simrad electronics). Iā€™m having to relearn / refresh

The locals helped get folks off too. Hereā€™s some pics of locals helping. (From the Profile Boats facebook page - I have a v similar boat parked in my driveway still )

The weather did produce a rainbow or two. Hereā€™s a pic taken from the Coastguard boat yesterday. The approaching thunderstorm helped create the rainbow.

It was good to get out in her. The thunderstorms passing over were good to get familiar with the radar, how she handled in the rough etc. but all while in familiar waters and with the knowledge that the thunderstorms would pass so we werenā€™t in for a long rough ride.

Spent yesterday morning going through the new (to me) boat getting familiar with nav, solar etc. then took it out to Tiritiri Matangi (specifically to see how it handled the 1.5m short chop). Saw my Coastguard crew out training and they came to say hi. (And Reg the skipper took a pic of me šŸ˜‚)

Me on theā€newā€ boat - a Rayglass 4000 (41ft / 12m launch) with Whangaparaoa peninsula in the distance. Sea is calm as we are in the shelter of Tiritiri Matangi island. Pic was taken from the coastguard boat

Cartoon. Title: Kitchen Science. Casey Costello, hot and bothered, stirring a bubbling pot, and smoking a cigarette. PM Luxon is looking over her shoulder, saying, ā€œWhat ya cookinā€™ up there, Casey?ā€ The pot sheā€™s stirring has Research written on it.
