I keep thinking of I Heard It Through the Grapevine, where an exhausted James Baldwin considers where the civil rights movement is by the early 1980s. There's a moment late in that film when he springs awake with such force. I feel like that's where Coates is now: alive and ready to speak on it.

That image is proof positive that, in a way, he will.

We used to make regrettable jokes about Mutombo's "real" age, but there was a positive subtext to it too: it seemed like he would play (and live) forever.

The recent clip of her going "That's Bobby.......... DeNiro." Too much power.

oh and don't forget the 413 too -- truly psychotic, we-are-in-hell level stuff.

What I enjoy about this isn't that Twitter caved, it's that it's very instructive: we actually don't have to just accept what the tech oligarchs want. Good on Lula.

In this specific case, we can acknowledge the transit context, the adjacent land uses, the cycling pinch point, the road network and desire lines. Taking the on-street parking out there makes some sense.

Every road (public right-of-way) is a balancing act, understanding need and adjacent uses. What's feasible and what's not. A true fact though is that as we move away from car space, we move away from cars.
