At a microbiome conference and a recent online suggestion that Microbiome should be a separate discipline has come to my mind No!!! Its ecology, metabolism, bioinformatics, Comp Biology, and all microbiology at its heart.

Cancer research is also metabolism, bioinformatics, genetics, comp bio, cell bio, etc etc, and no one would dare say it's not a discipline
