Thing is, before giving him this regular bike, he had one of those "equilibrium bikes", which there are no pedals, the kid just pushes with their feet, y'know? That thing WORKS. He learned to balance on it, so when the pedals came he was just ready for it!

I remember the first time I saw one of those. Neighbors' 2 y.o. was riding it down the street. I said to my wife "Check this out!" and the kid immediately crashed into a mailbox

They’re amazing aren’t they, our 3.5yr old went straight onto a pedal bike a few months ago because of having a balance bike - she now cycled to nursery like it’s no big deal

My brother has his kids using the balance bikes and all three of them picked up pedal bikes instantly.
