Alice Munro’s passing has me in mind of the small Ontario town that believes she stole their stories, perhaps my favorite literary news story. www.thestar.com/entertainmen...
She has called Wingham, Ont., “the most interesting place in the world.” Some locals wish it were less so.
“…Marlene Leedham, who led the prayers, recalled that Munro had once spoken at a UCW potluck dinner she’d attended. “We were all sure we were going to be written up so we were very careful of what we said.” (They weren’t.)”
A zillion percent the anger is all memory-holed and the Alice Munro museum gets consecrated fast there
But that town stole them from Eau Claire Wisconsin
I grew up in a nearby town. Love this so much and have been thinking all day of how much her work captured the place.
