I was so dead set on seeing TCM, because I'd by that time been reading about it for a few years, in Fangoria, and books and so on. It was, at the time, the most disturbing thing I'd ever seen. Hands down. Not "scary" or suspenseful, but deeply disturbing and uncomfortable.

At that age, I didn't see the humor that is in it. I saw those elements as a kind of recognition of the absurdity of reality, and that even that far outside of the norm, there were things we can recognize in each other. That aspect made it feel more "real" than anything I'd seen to that point.
