Even without that particular meaning, I still really don’t like how the phrase implies improvement without contextualizing it relative to the environment. It implies an evolutionary sort of scala naturae, where some are “more evolved” than others

Oh yeah, one of my pet peeves has always been this idea that evolution has an end goal. There's no higher being. There are just accident making living beings more or less likely to pass their genes on.
