My project bag that I brought to my brother's house this summer reeked of their intense detergent (Gain). It took months. Even the stuff I didn't take out of the bag smelled like it.

Not only is it frustrating because it's gross (and makes it hard for loads of people to breathe), but the intense scent masks things like mildew - it doesn't get rid of mildew, it just covers it up. I have to do a load of buffer laundry before washing clothes in the communal washer b/c of detergent

Gain and Tide are the worst for me too. The scent is so insidious and sticky. My medical appointment clothes get washed with washing soda and then put in the dryer for a couple hours to de-scent them, but you can’t do that with everything.
