There is a well-documented overlap between rationalism (LessWrong itself has covered notable instances) and cults, and many cults also develop insular language, so this is not an ill-founded comparison

As for the article, I have read (and in some sections admittedly skimmed) it and others before several years ago, and I largely find his writing to be belabored and not nearly as insightful as he thinks it is
