That’s when I developed Doc Al’s Theory of Tech Policy: A) most tech policy comes down to 3-5 key tech issues BUT B) identifying *which* those tech issues are requires substantive expertise in both the underlying tech and the nuances of policy.
Gotta teach the tech w the policy. Back in the Old Days, circa 2007, RFID privacy was the big thing. I had students read industry marketing material, then read the breathless privacy literature. The next lecture was explaining the physics of RFID, and why both were misguided.
