I’m retired now and Lisa is working full-time from home. Most of her video meetings are fine, but as a media manager for the Union of Concerned Scientists, she gets a lot of calls from reporters, but also from people who are perhaps not all there, conspiracies, etc. I could literally not take it.

You’re talking about people who never revise their beliefs no matter what new data comes in, so they’ll never understand that experts use the data they have when making estimates or projections *and* update those estimates or projections when new data comes in.

The polling firms need to weight their samples, and they use educated guesswork and the results of prior elections to do so. The only way to correct the weighting is from actual elections, so they’re always weighting from the *last* election.
