UMN started doing public portions over Zoom during COVID and still does some now based on student/committee needs, and those are actually really community building as well as alums will log on to support their former lab mates during their defenses
Miami does private defenses & I miss the public component. At UMN, I had a public presentation with friends/family & then a short private exam/vote. I believe your committee had to approve your diss document as ready to defend (essentially saying you would pass) before you could schedule the defense
Data collection isn't complete, but we don't need to recruit new participants, we don't have people "scheduled" bc it's a survey, & we have results for T1 only analyses. How do we answer questions about the total desired N, the N collected, & the N scheduled? Please consider this in the future! /2
@spspnews.bsky.social FYI, some of your preconference submission questions are hard to answer for some study designs. We are submitting a longitudinal study where we have T1 data collected & analyzed and are getting T2 data at the end of the semester. /1
