I really want to get better at turn based strategy RPG games but I have really bad luck with them. I really wanna get into them but need a good jumping off point. I hear Vandal Hearts on Saturn is really good. Got a turn based strategy RPG game that you love? The more obscure the better!

Tactics Ogre (fairly involved TB combat w/political turmoil background) X-Com: TFTD (deep TB combat with strategy/resource management) Silent Storm (WW2-themed TB combat w/destructible environments) Front Mission 3 or 5 (you'll need a fan translation patch for 5) Also Valkyria Chronicles

Legend of Cao Cao, aka Sangokushi Sosoden, a PC Koei SRPG game release back in '98 and fan translated. It's a Romance of the Three Kingdom game where you follow Cao Cao's life from his early career to his rise in power, with a new ending with two* branches based on your choices throughout the game.

yeah im usually horrible at them, even tho they can be really fun. i could never get far in the original Final Fantasy Tactics, its so hard... but i think Shining Force is a great beginner Tactics RPG! easy to get into, not too hard. and i love Front Mission and SMT Devil Survivor on DS!
