We’ve had this in the UK for a while and it’s been a terrific success apart from a slightly racist passport photo upload algorithm.
I did mine online earlier this year & it worked very well! Still have to mail in documents, but I tracked the process (received notifications along the way) & no issues. I highly recommend it!
One thing to keep in mind is that you are in the correct website. Mytravel.state.gov Anything else is a privately owned looking to make money or scam you

Renewed mine this year. Hardest part was getting an acceptably sized photo in France.
i hope they'll release it for folks living outside the us at some point soon. getting a renewal from overseas is always a trial.
