The survey asked participants to rate the social appropriateness of a series of statements, which allowed us to measure attitudes towards these statements across different groups and explore how political identities shape perceptions of such norms.
The study investigates Americans' reactions to racially offensive speech, focusing on perceptions of social inappropriateness. It reveals that White Republicans are more likely to rate anti-White statements as socially inappropriate compared to other groups.
Demographic processes affect social norms. We study the rise of a norm against anti-White prejudice in the US as a response to the country's demographic changes, with effect being most pronounced among White Republicans (with Nan Zhang and Fabian Winter) royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...
