RFK Jr. and Jordan Peterson's "Make America Healthy Again" nonsense is often chalked up to "horseshoe theory." I disagree. Woo-woo was always reactionary, not progressive, despite a crunchy exterior. Alt-med going full MAGA is just a flowering into its final form. www.salon.com/2024/09/26/r...
Despite a crunchy exterior, "alternative medicine" has always been rooted in opposition to social progress
Are we sure? I’m pretty sure being anti-vax and drinking raw milk used to be more of a lefty hippy thing before the pandemic?
Agreed. The anti-authority bent of the Woo-woo crowd has always been anti-government, rather than bending towards better government, social equity etc.
The whole idea behind "organic food" and "purity" in that regard was always close to literal Nazi bullshit Biodynamic agriculture and all that
Great piece. My microbiologist son has been saying similar things for years. He also calls it “bro medicine” besides woo-woo 😉
"The pandemic didn't convert people to the right, so much as it revealed the reactionary and even fascistic leaning of so many people who insisted they offer 'natural' alternatives to 'medicalized' health care." www.salon.com/2024/09/26/r...

Nazis, old and neo, literally promote homeopathy over "Jewish" (real) medicine. At least here in Germany. But media still frame it as some lefty hippie shit. At least since Covid we should know better 🤷♀️
When I read Tara Westover's "Educated", I was quite surprised that these hard right evangelical White Christian conspiracists (Westover's family) were into alternative medicine and run an essential oil manufacturing business. Tat connection was new to me.
The fact there’s a huge crunchy influence amongst born-again Christian mums should refute the left-wing allegations. Like a ton of the anti-vaxxer-caused disease outbreaks in the US are from homeschooling evangelicals.
