Actually smart people learn from an early age that if you assume people have a reason for what they do, you can often figure it out fairly quickly. Sometimes it's not a good reason! But mostly it is. Dumbasses like Musk just assume everyone else is acting randomly and only they have reason.

proper response to the (mostly) dudes who decide to start from scratch and "common sense" their way to their designs/politics, with their "what if everything we know about ____ is made up or wrong?" premise, is, "it's not. we don't reboot the world every time a billionaire has a mid-life crisis."

He's fundamentally incapable of thinking about things from anyone's perspective but his own. He likely doesn't even think that others have thoughts and experiences independent from his own.
