Just finished a couple month long re-read of Gene Wolfe’s Solar Cycle series so now I am (1) dropping hints everywhere I can that people should read this too and (2) don’t know how to read anything else. Guess I’ll just stare off into space for the next month.
I re-read a lot of Wolfe in '22, starting with his not so good first novel Operation ARES (heavily edited by publisher), and then other novels/novellas (Fifth Head, Peace, etc), ending the year with Urth of the New Son. A hoped for read through others hasn't happened yet, maybe next year.
I have only managed “Shadow & Claw” so far. I found it rich, dense, and transformative. It still sits, coiled around my brainstem, whispering dark secrets into my brain. It’s like if peyote dreams made narrative sense *and* told you a deeper truth.
You go! :-) I've read the first four "New Sun" books twice each, but tapped out of the cycle after Calde, hope to resume (or start over) one of these days. As for further reading, maybe the anthology The Furthest Horizon: SF Adventures to the Far Future might give some ideas as to where to go next.
sounds like a great time to get started on Gene Wolfe's Latro series!
Would you consider this image a reasonable order in which to read? I read the original 4, but got lost as far as order after that (somewhat due to collections etc).Would you consider this image a reasonable order in which to read?
