Twenty years ago, libertarians were republican guys who wanted to smoke pot, take drugs, pay sex workers, and they rationalized it by saying “the government shouldn’t regulate x”. That rationale now lets them passively support the status quo without taking a position. Economics divorced from morals

“The government shouldn’t regulate [wages/workplace conditions/ discrimination/ education/ access to healthcare]” keeps the marginalized in a disadvantaged position. Convenient for the already wealthy and business owners. There’s no real ideology. It’s just “I’ve got mine, fuck you”
