This reminds me how the generation of amateur radio operators who kept external generators to power their āham shacksā is all but gone now. Maybe it would benefit communities to support this hobby, given the fragile nature of modern communications.

My father kept a warehouse level inventory of rubber bands. He rubber banded all kinds of things, important papers, tool sets. I remember them dangling from the silver gearshift in his car, ready and waiting.
