4. I would not call it a "happy" book, though. Both this book and the one I'd just read before this one had discussions (theme? I don't know the right word) of suicide. Which is a very important topic. I think both writers did a great job at writing about this difficult subject.
3. It's very well written, Miram Toews is a fantastic writer. Her father struggled with manic-depression all his life. So this is set in his final years at a hospital. The voice is excellent, and she makes her father come across as very likeable (which he may have been in real life.)
2. I've read memoirs and I've read biographies. And I have read memoirs/autobiographies that were ghost-written. This is my first book where it is a memoir, except it is not a memoir. It's fiction, yet not fiction. Interesting format.
1. This book is by Miriam Toews. It is called "Swing Low: A Life." I don't know whether to put this as fiction or non-fiction. Toews writers about her father, but from HIS point of view. So it reads like her father's memoir, but it's not his memoir.
4. Kelly Loy Gilbert really digs deep, and it pays off because this book is something I think everybody can relate to. What makes a friend a friend? Is it possible to change things to back the way they were before? When should we just.... ....let go?
3. The great thing about this book is that it gets messy, and I mean messy, with the emotions. Her crush Jason has his OWN problems he is dealing with. It's not all about you, Beth. Hard lesson to learn, but aren't most high schoolers dealing with that? It's not all about you, Beth!!!
2. Plus she has a crush on one of her buddies. Things are getting complicated! Because if you have a group of platonic friends, and you have a crush on one of them.....well, that might just be the beginning of a YA book! That's Beth on the right. The friend she has a crush on, over there↙️
