Yeah. I mean when you see the marks made by a human hand, the sculptural quality of a painting, you sense the person and the story behind the work. It’s food for the soul.

I remember coming around a corner at the DeYoung and coming face to face with Whistler’s Mother (it was there on loan) and was blown away. For starters it is HUGE, and the darks have so much depth.

I'm sure that's true for people that understand the finer points, but the study compared looking at framed original art in the museum walls to looking at prints in the gift shop. The presentation probably has a lot more impact on the results for the average person

While not 100% the same, this is why I wish museums would spend effort to make their collections available as VR.
