Just found a gem of a Wikipedia article! Someone's overtaken the article on Tarshish, a far-flung port mentioned in the Bible, to prove that it was definitely a city in Sri Lanka

Biblical significance of Sri Lanka. If ships sailes once in 3 years to a distant "Tarshish port" (which referred to the ancient port of Galle) to get very specific merchandise, all contained in Sri Lanka. Therefore it can be undoubtedly concluded that this "distant port" which is regularly referred to, is no other than the thriving trade hub island of Sri Lanka, Tarshish of ancient times
Other critical Biblical references that validate the actual location of Tarshish
1. Green stones for the best plate came from Sri Lanka. Moses was asked by the lord to make the breastplate with 12 stones with the names of each tribe engraved therein- it is very significant that 10 of these 12 stones were from Sri Lanka and some of them were endemic to Sri Lanka
The text of a news article from 2013 titled Traces if Cinnamon Found in 3000 Year Old Vessels has been put into the Wikipedia article. Dateline: Tel Aviv, Israel. It says that traces of cinnemaldehyde found in flasks at archeological sites in Israel suggest there may have been ancient trade with southern India or Sri Lanka, as cinnamon was only found in those places.
Rebuttal of the misconception of Spain being Tarshish.
1. It does not take 3 years to trade with Spain which is a mere 1983 nautical miles however to trade with Sri Lanka which is over 4000 nautical miles. It took 3 years is travel as stated in 1 Kings 10:22 (For the king had at sea a navy of Tarshish with the navy of Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tarshish, bringing gold, gems and silver, ivory, and apes and peacock) and Chronicles 9:21 (essentially the same text as the Kings verse)
