As bad as this is, if you crunch the numbers you don’t get paid a whole lot more/page when making GNs for book publishers. No excuses, this is exploitative garbage, and you generally own your work with trad publishers. Overall the publishing model is broken, this is a particularly egregious example

IDW’s new payment plan for creators is exposure? If this is true that per-page budget is insanity. Also- young creators out there. Publishers who pay an insulting page rate with the assurance you’ll make great royalties are lying.

Getting paid less and becoming a promoter for the product as well! I can't undertsand what is the point of a publisher now days, they want the artist to do everything all the hard work as well the promotion with dirt for pay, and they will just sit back and print money for them.

The fact the publisher is the son of a millionaire, has been given a family business then cuts pay for the plebs sticks in the craw.

Here's Stan Goldberg talking about starting out drawing comics in 1952 and getting $30.00 a page. That would be $356.00 in today's money.
