what's great is this supportive and helpful advice from the blue state crowd who so care deeply about the health and wellbeing of Texans that "all" they can do is write snarky, smug shit on the internet while our state denies us life-saving abortions

a comment exchange on the Post social media platform.

"Catladie" says: "All I can say to anyone living in these shithole states is, as soon as you can, get out. Before they morph totally into East Germany."

I respond: "Thanks, that's very helpful advice that we've never heard before! How many of us are you putting up at your house and hiring at your place of work?"

I know everyone here is smart enough to know this, but I'll repeat it anyway: those "shithole" states are full of just as many wonderful people as the "blue" states. It's the system that sucks. They're mostly stuck under voter disenfranchisement and gutted social welfare.

Not every state allows lawyers to waive in. New Mexico comes to mind (which is why I took that bar for my NM license 14 years after TX). Who is giving us jobs and paying our relocation and licensure fees? Especially us Olds?

I’m from Florida. I get gifs of Bugs Bunny sawing my state off. Meanwhile the GOP uses us as a testing ground for what they do elsewhere, and no one cares till it happens elsewhere. Radioactive phosphogypsum in roads you say? Well, wake us when Louisiana tries it.

I feel like everything would be fractionally better, if we all just stopped making assumptions that people can just pick up and leave however/whenever they choose, and they're not doing it out of stubbornness. People stay for their reasons, whether it's to fight, or because they can't go.

I've been hearing it for decades. Leaving only results in it spreading. The "it won't happen here" idea.

The worst part is that I don’t want to leave Texas. The government here is awful, and some people suck, but… lots of Texans don’t suck. Some Texans are queer. Many are kind. I’ve been to rundown restaurants in bumfuck nowhere where the staff treat you like family and serve up the best BBQ ever.

They never volunteer to move here en masse for a year or so to help us vote for change.

It never occurs to these assholes that no state is safe from this shit.

There’s only so much that moving states will ameliorate for any of us living in red states. It’s not a magic fix-all. And what? We gonna have conservatives move to the red states? That line of thinking does NOT lead to anything good.
