this is the shocking and unexpected result of Biden’s official policy of “taking zero material steps toward securing a ceasefire”

It's Mean Girls day in class (using this clip of Gretchen Wieners & the candygrams to explain the concepts of international status and status deficits). www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnjW...

Curious what people thinking about the "put all your chips on a single, perfect, not-yet-published job market paper" advice that was common when I was in grad school... seems pretty high-risk for anybody outside of a narrow band of hires.

The same for academic work! There are 1000 ways to give critical feedback to someone w out being nasty. The ways that nasty reviews stay in my mind... I've received 500+ peer reviews at this point & STILL remember the one that said I did work "in the worst and least imaginative way possible"

Campus priorities mean that the entire food court has been retrofitted with an overly complicated GrubHub ordering system but select classrooms in my building still hit 85'F during teaching hours.

Nice to be confirmed sometimes (me, to Brookings, early July vs. Nahal Toosi reporting this past week) 1. www.brookings.edu/articles/mak...www.politico.com/news/magazin...

Andrew Leber response: This aside, MBS’ attitude toward normalization is pragmatic: he will pursue it so long as it seems to provide security or reputational dividends but will not sacrifice significant standing at home or regionally to do so.
Nahal Toosi article: His comments made sense in the context of how others described MBS to me — as a Saudi nationalist. Whether he personally cares about the Palestinian cause is irrelevant. He’ll support it if it benefits Saudi Arabia.

My course "Middle East Security" but it's just a full re-watch of Battlestar Galactica exploring all real-life parallels

it's very normal--especially when you're running for office--to talk about your immigrant mother-in-law like she's part of an invasive species of bird whose reproductive cycles you've been observing from under your pith helmet
