But ... it is saying the same thing. I think the softer landing with "unfounded narratives" is more indifferent (purposely). When I read that sentence it conveys the message that MTG is lying. If it read "the crazy MTG is lying", I'm not sure to many folks would be open to look into it ... IMO

I’m not so sure it’s the same as saying she is lying. Lying is definitive. “Unfounded narratives” implies that they could be founded, but the evidence isn’t known yet. It also implies that she may be mistaken. It still gives her a benefit of doubt that she doesn’t deserve.
