Like on search committees, I can almost always tell based on the CV alone whether to interview the candidate. I’ve never read a cover letter that changed my mind about that.
I find them the hardest part because they seem so redundant with the CV. You have my CV, that tells you whether or not I’m qualified. Can we please abandon this archaic document like much/most of the private sector has?
Agree. It is mystifying. PubMed seems to take UX seriously for the most part, so I don’t understand how they decided this should be the default.

Average starting salaries for the new librarians are HALF what their classmates working outside libraries are earning! And the overall average is $18k more than i am earning 13 years post-degree. Can i go back and redo school? 2)
