if you leave the light on angstinspace Summary: Miles despises moments like these, where he nearly releases his heart from the shackles he's diligently kept around it. He can't be so careless as to hope... But sometimes, when Phoenix Wright looks at him that way, Miles has to wonder if he's thinking the same thing-whether he's remembering those two times that they briefly, foolishly gave in to their desires. Whether he still has any of those feelings. Whether he has any regrets. Phoenix and Trucy are visiting Miles in Germany, and Miles has promised himself that nothing will happen between him and Phoenix Wright (again). But while working together to investigate the circumstances behind Phoenix's disbarment, Miles and Phoenix make an unexpected breakthrough... and confront the feelings they've been denying for years.
Even Miles-who typically dreads the holidays-found himself caught up in the cheerful atmosphere of it all. The rows of stalls and tents were adorned with string lights, creating a soft glow in the falling light, and the air carried an inviting smell of gingerbread and spiced wine. Trucy was enamored with the bustling market, excitedly pointing and exclaiming at the scenery around them. A few times, she grabbed both Wright and Miles by their hands to drag them over to one stall or another, and marveled at all the decorations, toys, and baked goods on display. Miles was surprised at first by how comfortable Trucy suddenly was around him, how she would reach out and tug on his sleeve to get his attention, the same way she often did to her father. But he grew used to it quickly, and it soon felt natural to be walking alongside Wright with his daughter hanging onto both their hands. It was only when passersby started giving them warm smiles that it occurred to Miles what the three of them probably looked like to an outsider, but... as Wright turned to grin at him under the glow of the lights, a dimple in his cheek and the tip of his nose reddened by the cold, Miles couldn't say he minded the idea.
