Note also that there is real destruction made by that choice. Godzilla’s home—his literal TEMPLE—is obliterated, and this actually plays into what he’s up to in GxK.

Not to get too far over my skis but there is another cost to the power up as the film goes on. Intriguing to think that if those Navy morons had nuked Godzilla in the last movie it WOULD have worked, but at a completely insane cost (wherever Godzilla has time to swim to ALSO gets nuked!)
