My girlfriend at the time took me to a super bowl party where everyone was convinced Prince was only pretending to play his guitar instead of bearing witness to a guitar god’s wizardry. Totally unforgivable.
I was just thinking that instead of a new show each year they should just replay this Prince performance.
Miss him so.
I feel like I have the same relationship with Prince’s music as I do with team sports: I will never understand the appeal but I’m glad it makes people happy.
Another footnote level comment on your excellent piece: in addition to the Minnesota connection in the Dylan/Hendrix song, there's a slight Minnesota connection to Proud Mary: that the riverboat plies the Mississippi, a river that meets its first big city as it rolls through Prince's hometown.
