Just dived down a rabbit hole about a strange online site purporting to be news. It's called channel3now(.com), and has an, on the face of it, official looking website and social media presence, if with low engagement. It’s also really weird the longer you look. (1)

Finally, the byline of every article is just “Channel3 Now Staff.” Yeah, definitely all humans typing these articles. Who set this up? What's the purpose? A lot of its offerings seem banal, but this headline and article is pretty inflammatory. People need to be far more aware of their sources. (6)

That comes to one of the biggest weird things. Aside from crime “reporting,” which seems to be frequent, everything else is incredibly out of date. Scroll a bit further down and you’ll get the “entertainment” section. The newest offering is 3 weeks old; the oldest (still front page), 7 months. (5)

The entertainment section on the homepage, again featuring out-of-date stories.

Below is a bar listing different pages, which are again news standard: news, world, entertainment, weather, etc. The weather one is a bit funny, because I’d anticipate weather forecasts, but instead it’s news stories about weather events, all of them at least 2 weeks old. (4)

The weather page, featuring out-of-date stories of storms.

The twitter account has existed since the beginning of 2022, but only began posting earlier this year. The site was first listed by Google 11 months ago. When you look at its homepage you will see a standard news banner of its name (which appears unconnected to any large media company). (3)

It came to my attention on what was once Twitter, where one post was having a semi-popular moment due to a current tragedy in news. This post contained information that doesn’t seem to be verified in any other media. I was curious. (2)

A snipped screenshot showing 5.9K likes and 1.3M views. Not massive, but it seemed to be the most cited source of this unverified information.
