How to restore a broken democracy after it has been vandalised by populists ? And is it legal to break the law to restore the spirit of the constitution? Spoiler: Sometimes there is no other way. Here’s my analysis on why Tusk is doing the right thing.👇

Poland’s democratic rehabilitation
Poland’s democratic rehabilitation

Polish democracy was close to death, smothered by populists. What will Donald Tusk’s government have to do to revive it?

Well, Tusks party were the ones who started demolishing the legal order on their way out (by pre-stacking the Constitutional Tribunal). I wouldn't count on them to strengthen the democracy.

I still think "populism" is an undue euphemism. (Jingoistic, xenophobic, fascistoid*) demagogy, more like. Demagogy for short. Same number of letters - one fewer in German. And far more telling a definition. *three key characteristic features, for further precision!

Very elaborated, interesting text! A political thriller almost, only that it's real.
