Vanillaware barely breaks even on anything and are likely using a bespoke engine they'd have to port themselves, instead of making a new game to keep the lights on

also this series is not primarily turn-based. ATB is real-time. the boss can attack you while you're pressing your menu items. you have to race meters instead of being able to sit there and getting to think about what to do next. I will die on this hill!
also it continues to be annoying that people just ignore 11 and 14, which are both games that are good and doing well and are well-received, because they're MMOs and that doesn't count. as if that is fundamentally, radically different than going action-based lmao
bro, I am deeply tired of people acting like Final Fantasy's ills started with 15 or 16, because I was there when people shat on 10, and 12, and 13 came out and it was bad, and 15 *was a spinoff of 13* at first with a similarly tortured dev cycle........
it IS pretty jarring for Nintendo tho, given that they have such a reputation and image for quality control and just...don't do it for their eshop I guess??
