Much like failures of police are met with calls for more policing. Failures of control are met with calls for more control. And at the root of the cycle is the assumption that stability is (or requires) control
I have a general term for that I invented years ago. "If that doesn't work, try more of the same." It applies to a LOT of situations. Seems likely it's related to the Sunk Cost Fallacy.
