GW200115: Simulation of a Black Hole Merging with a Neutron Star Source: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap210714.html #blckhole #neutonstar #gravitationlwaves #G200115 #asronomy#space #cience #hysic #ligo#virgo #simlation #cosmiccollision

A computer simulation of a black hole swallowing a neutron star. The simulation shows the black hole (about 6 times the Sun's mass) and the neutron star (about 1.5 times the Sun's mass) spiraling towards each other and emitting gravitational waves (shown in blue). Eventually, the neutron star is completely absorbed by the black hole, and the gravitational waves die down. This simulation is based on the real gravitational wave event GW200115 detected by LIGO and Virgo observatories.

What happens when a black hole destroys a neutron star? Analyses indicate that just such an event created gravitational wave event GW200115, detected in 2020 January by LIGO and Virgo observatories. To better understand the unusual event, the featured visualization was created from a computer
