A false-color image of the Antennae Galaxies, taken in near-infrared light by the Wide-field InfraRed Camera (WIRC) on the Palomar Observatory's 200-inch Hale telescope. The image shows the two galaxies in the process of colliding, with their nuclei clearly visible and surrounded by newly formed star clusters.  The northern nucleus is obscured in optical images, but is revealed here to have a barred, mini-spiral structure.
