New Feature Alert: Access archived webpages directly through Google Search, now featuring a link to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. 🔗 blog.archive.org/2024/09/11/n...
You the real internet archive????
During WWII, (on the tangential topic of way-back) this is an early example of a 'meme'; someone who saw written on a wall 'kilroy was here' with a cartoon of a guy poking his nose over a wall was more likely to secretly write it again, to pass it along and tease whoever naively encountered it
Google added something *useful* to Search? Am I being pranked?
Heck yeah!!
Nice idea, but I don't use Google anymore. DuckDuckGo is my default nowadays.
And Google is paying the IA because this adds value to their search product, right? Right?
Good stuff
Google had and removed a feature where you were able to view a cached copy of a page in case the site is down or gone. Now they re-introduced the same feature by linking to a service run by volunteers. I hope Google is paying or otherwise contributing to The Internet Archive for the traffic.
